The sun streams in through the windows, casting splashes of gold and red across the pews. I’ve always loved the effect of sunlight through stained-glass windows. And then I remember. The windows here aren’t stained glass.

Synopsis: Five hundred years ago, eight protestant martyrs were burned at the stake here. Thirty years ago, two teenage girls disappeared without a trace. And two months ago, the vicar of the local parish killed himself.

Mini review: After reading The Chalk Man by C.J. Tudor, I was hesitant and excited to try another one of her books. Her writing style is so captivating that she is known as the female Stephen King.

I was torn between Burning Girls and The Taking of Anne Thorne. Then, I found Other People and I was even more confused.

Having just finished An American Marriage by Tayari Jones, I wanted something spooky, thrilling and Burning Girls seemed to check all the boxes.
