In the beginning…

On January 29, 2025 at 6 p.m. sharp, something happened. To know what, I have to take you back to 2024.

In 2024, I was inspired by Dan Nelken’s post on LinkedIN. That post started with a quote that inspired him.

“To write one great headline, you have to write 100.”

Time and again I thought, “yes, let’s do this!” But ended up doom-scrolling instead. I went as far as to attend Dan’s masterclass for more inspiration. I was inspired…until I wasn’t once the session ended.

A little further from the beginning…

Last weekend, I was seated in Good Shepherd auditorium, its walls echoing laughter of various decibels and rhythm. More than 1000 people collectively struggled to keep their eyes open for an hour because the jokes wouldn’t stop. Last weekend, I was at Kanan Gill’s What is this? stand-up comedy show.

Inspired two days later at 6 p.m. sharp, I sat down with my laptop and decided to take up Dan Nelken’s headline exercise. Finally, I felt my fingers (or spidey-sense) tingle with anticipation.

I`m getting to the point

While writing, I had three questions in mind:
1. What did I like about the show?
2. How relevant was my copy to the theme of the show?
3. Would someone who didn’t attend the show understand the copy?

Kanan promotes his show well enough. He doesn’t need my copywriting prowess. But if you think that my copy is even half as good as I do, share it with him!

Seriously, almost there!

I could copy & paste it here for you to doom-scroll through. But my Canva-dependency refuses to let me be lazy. So, I’m sharing my top choices from the 30 headlines.
